Leeorah Betan-Hartman has been making jewelry since she was in high school. Her passion for jewelry started at a young age when she would make earrings and necklaces from beads and wire. Her signature design is inspired by the forms and movement found in nature. This place of inspiration is a constant evolution for design and expansion of her collection.  Everyone has a unique perspective and a unique way of showing it. If it is something everyone sees everyday, or something only one person has seen, it will never be seen the same way twice. All of Lulu & Shay jewelry are made by hand with a great attention to detail and quality.

Leeorah tries to embody her perspective through her inspirations in what she likes to create.  It also allows her to be aware of her surroundings and be more connected to them, making the day-to-day a much more vibrant and rich experience. Lulu & Shay is inspired by the desire to both adorn and connect through the jewelry we wear. Wearing jewelry can be whimsical and at the same time express our inner values and feelings.  It can be a true statement of ourselves and the hope is that people who wear Lulu & Shay pieces feel more connected to their environment and the world. Lulu & Shay also tries to give back by contributing to charities that reflect our beliefs and ideals. You can find more information on these charities on the "Giving Back" page.

Leeorah works in both gold and silver and accents her pieces with diamonds and other semi-precious stones. Pieces can be custom ordered. Lulu and Shay jewelry is all handmade.  Lulu & Shay handcrafts all of our pieces using only Sterling Silver, 14K and 18K Gold. All metals come from recycled or reclaimed sources. You can be confident knowing that your piece avoids invasive environmental mining by instead reusing already existing metals. We also use 100% recycled packaging as well as try to give back to our environment and community by donating to Friends of the Earth, Art Start, Best Friends Animal Society, Heifer International and many more!

Leeorah works and lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband and three children.

Custom Mens Ring

chace hartman

It's hard to believe summer is almost over! I haven't had a chance to write about this incredible custom mens ring I had the honor to make! This was a special project for someone who reached out to me from Australia. Tys had recently had a job promotion and had promised himself this ring once he achieved it. It was so much fun to work with someone who had such a clear vision for what they wanted. He had very specific ideas of each aspect of the ring.

After he sent me some photo references i was able to put together a photoshop mock up of the ring that looked like this:

Once i found the perfect ruby I got to work on the wax!  To accommodate the stone we made the band a little taller then the photoshop rendering.  Also, we decided to make the ridges more uneven and organic feeling as opposed to straight across as the photoshop file had been.

The ring has many subtle textures on the band, bezel, and ridges to give it a more aged and antique look. It was so much fun to work on it as I was able to use different approaches then I have with my more recent designs.

The final piece was cast in 10K yellow gold and features a gorgeous Ruby center and one gray diamond in the top right. It was such an honor to make this ring and help bring something Tys had only imagined and thought about to life. Wishing much continued success to Tys!
